Keyless Entry System

The key fob is equipped with an internal chip that allows it to communicate with the receiver module of your car. If the key fob ceases to function suddenly, it's possible that the internal chip has been damaged. This could happen when you drop the key fob to the floor or if you've attempted to use a different key fob and it doesn't work. In this case you'll still be able to start the vehicle by pushing the "Start" button on the fob's key if the battery isn't dead.

If the key fob works, it will send an indication to the receiver module, telling it which trunk or door is open. The module will then open the correct door or trunk so that you can enter and start the car. When you press the button on the remote control, you are able to lock or unlock the car. Certain systems are smart enough to recognize the driver's specific fob, and then automatically lock when they leave the car.

The majority of Kia models come with an integrated keyless entry system that includes keys for remotes and a flip key with transponder. Some of these require programming by a certified locksmith or dealer, whereas other don't. All key fobs and flip keys are powered by batteries, and need to be replaced every two years or so. You'll need a CR-2032 batteries, which you can buy on the internet for around $5.

Key Fob

The key fob that is used in Kia vehicles is a standard, silver unit with a button in the upper left corner. It opens the mechanical key, allowing the door to be opened when the battery is exhausted. It also starts the engine in emergency situations. Transponder Chip Key

The transponder chip is a security device that relays a unique code to the car's immobilizer once it's inserted into the ignition. The immobilizer will then block the vehicle's fuel pump, starter motor and any other device which would otherwise allow it to function not for the chip's identification code.

The key is usually made of metal with a plastic head that houses the transponder. To remove the ignition key, you'll require a screwdriver to get enough leverage. The user is then able to remove the chip, which looks like a tiny transparent tube or a black square. The chip is then positioned on a piece of tape, and fixed to the ignition lock, close to the barrel of ignition.
